Intermediate Tax Accountant

We have an Australian-based client in Victoria who is looking to grow its offshore team. 

The client is an accounting firm that specialises in providing finance, tax and business advice to small and medium-sized businesses. They currently have 2 partners, 11 staff onshore, and 2 team members offshore. 

They are looking for a highly-skilled tax accountant who has excellent communication skills and is looking for a long-term career in accounting. 

The role includes:

  • Providing support to the Accounting Operations Manager and Senior Accountant to work on our client engagements
  • Preparation of General Ledgers, Financial Statements and Tax returns for our client group entities and families. Collating supporting work papers and files, getting these ready to review
  • Following up the engagements in process and taking accountability for the stage of completion (i.e from work into review and client out-to-sign and lodgment). Following up with the Manger, Partners, client or Admin team to drive the completion of the job in full
  • Being involved in complex and technical areas of our client’s tax and legal structures and issues (including. Div7A loans, Trust distribution, Income Tax Reconciliations, Capital Gains, Small Business Concessions etc)
  •  Assisting the Accounting Operations Manager with the design and implementation of workflows and processes. Following the processes and being a strong example to junior staff
  • Problem Solving – both for technical client matters (ie Tax) and internal process matters, working with existing Partners and Accounting Operations Manager to look for solutions (ie. savings for us and our clients)
  • Building client relationships – being open to taking client queries and trying to resolve simple issues when appropriate, and assisting our clients with minor accounting/system issues. Escalating only a more complex or technical matter or advice requests from clients.
  • Focus on efficiency and guiding team members on job budgeted hours and expectations. Explaining delegated tasks with junior staff before letting them start. Liaising with the Accounting Operations Manager to feedback immediately when tasks are given. 
  • Input on terms of engagement and scoping and budget versus what is required and feedback to the Manager on out-of-scope/new work requirements
  • Attending internal (and external) training and development which is on offer, and being proactive about any courses or professional development

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a similar discipline
  • 2+ years minimum proven Australian tax experience
  • CPA Certification is a plus
  • Proficiency in accounting software programs such as Xero Business, Workpapers and Tax 
  • Proficiency in practice management software such as XPM and FYI docs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel is a must
  • Strong communicator, well-spoken and proficient in communicating with internal team members (and external clients in future)
  • Excellent written English communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple clients
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented
  • Ability to problem solve and research online

  • Stable internet connection (at least 30 MBPS)

Work Setup and schedule:

  • Full-time
  • Day Shift (8 Hours) 
  • Fixed Saturday and Sunday off
  • Remote/Work-from-home 
  • A separate room to undertake work is required
